Bio: 

Elena is a research associate within the UWA Business School. Her primary research interest lies in the field of complex systems management with a particular emphasis on corporate systems, co-operative enterprises and market applications. She focuses on the development of:

  • Theoretical models
  • Quantitative assessment methods, and
  • Management practices to address complex interactions between systems elements.

Elena completed her PhD in Complex Systems Management in 2009 and was briefly a research fellow at Curtin University Sustainability Policy Institute prior to joining UWA at her current role. She comes from a small business management background, being one of the key associates and still a shareholder in GAIA SA DESING, an engineering consulting firm, member of the ICAP certified “Strongest Companies in Greece”. She has extensive experience in project management, total quality management, internal and external quality auditing under the ISO 9000 series.

Elena holds memberships with The Institute of Engineers Australia (MIE Aust), the Technical Chamber of Greece (National Engineering Association). She is a reviewer for the international journals: Ecological Economics (Elsevier), Physics and Chemistry of the Earth (Elsevier), and Sustainability (MDPI Publishing, Basel, Switzerland). She is also a certified auditor, having passed the ongoing assessments of IRCA (International Register of Certified Auditors) for the Practical Auditing of Quality Management Systems against the ISO 9000:2000 Series
