Antony (Tony) Bader is the founder and principal of Antony Bader Consulting, a specialist consulting firm established to assist companies from start-up to publicly listed with financial management and control systems. He is concurrently working with RiverWijs WA as their Group Accountant and Assistant General Manager. RiverWijs is a world class towage and marine services company, which is a division of Riverside Marine.
Before embarking on his business career, Tony worked in the Northern Territory and Western Australia where he was a "ringer" on a cattle station in the Kimberley region. Later he spent time mustering camels in the Simpson Desert and working in abattoirs and outback hotels including Alice Springs. Following this colourful outback career Tony enrolled at Edith Cowan University in 1984 and completed a Bachelor's Degree in Business graduating in 1988.
Following graduation Tony worked as an accountant in fabrication and construction companies in Perth before travelling to the United Kingdom. There he worked in London and Manchester as a financial accountant for the Virgin Group. He returned to Australia in 1992 and joined a Public Accounting firm as a manager before establishing his own practice. In 1998 Tony sold his practice and went abroad to Vietnam where he helped to establish a textile factory. After two years in Vietnam he sought adventure and role a bicycle from Tel-Aviv to Johannesburg.
After returning to Perth in 2000 Tony took up a position as a Chief Financial Officer with a property developer and later worked in Timor assisting the establishment of the ANZ Bank in Dili. This bank soon become one of the most successful ANZ branches in the Pacific rim. He returned to study in 2003, enrolling in an MBA program at the University of Western Australia (UWA). Following the completion of this degree he continued on to do a Master of Management Research (MMR) and then a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) at UWA. He graduated in 2012.
Tony's DBA thesis was an investigation into the nature of the "Born Global" firm and how it has been defined and understood over the past 20 years. His thesis was examined by Professor Jan Johanson, acknowledged as one of the world's eminent scholars in the globalisation of the firm. Professor Johanson described Tony's thesis as "an intelligent, serious, original and highly relevant study", noting that "the results of the study are interesting and convincing" and "I consider this thesis excellent".
