Management of Technology and Innovation (MOTI) (MKTG5503) is a unit within the MBA program at the University of Western Australia (UWA) designed, developed and taught by Winthrop Professor Tim Mazzarol. It also forms part of the UWA Graduate Certificate of Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
This course provides a strategic perspective on the commercialisation of an innovation. Typically this can be a new technological product or service. However, it can also involve a new technological process, market, marketing or administrative innovation.
A feature of MOTI is that it provides students with real life industry projects to work on, and allows industry project owners the opportunity to bring their innovations into the classroom, participate in the learning and gain valuable support from the students.
MOTI offers a step-wise approach to how to think about the process of assessing the value of a future innovation, build a value proposition for the customer, configure the resources necessary to commercialise the innovation and design a sustainable business model.
