Biotechnology Commercialisation

Biotechnology Commercialisation (BC) is a unit within the Master of Biotechnology program at the Univesity of Western Australia (UWA) designed, developed and taught by Winthrop Professor Tim Mazzarol.

This course provides a strategic perspective on the commercialisation of an innovaiton within the biotechnology field. Biotechnology encompasses a wide range of potential commercial fields. In short it involves using living systems and organisms to develop or make products, or to develop technological applications to apply to living systems and organisms in areas such as health and nutrition.

A feature of the course is that it provides students with real life industry projects to work on, and allows industry project owners the opportunity to bring their innovations into the classroom, participate in the learning and gain valuable support from the students.

The course offers a step-wise approach to how to think about the process of assessing the value of a future innovation, build a value proposition for the customer, configure the resources necessary to commercialise the innovation and design a sustainable business model.
